Younger Women Older Men; the Dating Enigma.

Sophia Richie and Scott Disick confirmed their relationship! and (naturally) their almost 15 year age gap was quick to spark debate in the office,….is it ‘normal‘? what exactly does 19 year old Sophia desire in a man so much her senior? and vice versa? But Sophia is not alone, Calista Flockhart and Harrison Ford make a 22 year age gap work while Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas rock 25 years between them.

Scott Disick, 34. Sophia Richie, 19.

So just why do younger women date older men? Naturally nose-y Two HQ did some digging to get the answers we all want!

Psychology Today writes that older men present “socially valued attributes that lead his younger partner to want to bond with him”. These attributes can take the form of success, respect or financial stability, causing young females to covet them in an act known as “hypergamy”. As the daughter of Lionel Richie and an in demand super-model Richie is extremely successful, respected and financially comfortable in her own right so we aren’t buying this one!

Cosmopolitan interviewed four women about their experiences dating older men and all returned different almost contradictory feedback. Asked why they entered into a relationship with an older man responses varied from being flattered by their interest or excited by the taboo aspect of the relationship, to choosing their partner’s personality ahead of their age. Concluding the interview the women reflected on these AGR’s (age-gap relationship), one woman described it as “the best kind of insane” while another reported feeling “disgusted” that a man so senior would have considered dating her while she was still a teen.

Hmmm….mixed reviews. Two HQ has a mantra “Love is Love” and as long as both parties are of legal age then we say let it be!
